Kennedys Shit Show’s next Episode - Vitamin A poisoning
Anti-science continues to harm children.
Vitamin A has been touted as a ‘miraculous cure’ by RFKJr.
It is useful for those Vitamin A deficient in poor nations or those seriously unwell with measles.
It is no substitute for vaccination.
Sold as supplements some parents are now overdosing their kids.
This is a potent example of the naturalistic fallacy
Kennedy continues to be a danger to children.
For the last few decades of his career as a professional vaccine cynic, RFKJr could say whatever he liked. Despite his efforts, most parents remain far more likely to believe advice from their doctors, but as we are seeing with the resurgence of Measles, a significant number are taken in.
Now in power he really needs to be more careful, but he just can’t break his addiction to his own wayward opinions. Consequently, and as regular as the tides, the bad news and disinformation just keep rolling in.
Vitamin A poisoning – Kennedy Syndrome 1
Unfortunately, some parents in Texas and elsewhere, correctly concerned about the spread of measles, and particularly parents who have decided not to protect their kids with vaccination, have taken him at his word and gone off to buy Vitamin A in the form of Cod Liver Oil or supplements.
Like Kennedy, they view dosing their kids with large doses of various retinyl esters, alpha carotene, and xanthophyll beta-cryptoxanthin, obtained by the industrial processing of the livers from the increasingly scarce Cod, and sold as poorly regulated supplements of variable quality for profit, to carefully make, highly specific, highly regulated and safe vaccines offered for free for the public good.
This is useful for children who are Vitamin A deficient – a rarity in the US - or those in hospital with severe disease who can benefit from carefully calibrated doses over two days.
Chicken in the Fox house
This all started with Kennedys interview on Fox (of course) when he stated he had heard, unsurprisingly from quack doctors now selling the stuff, of “almost miraculous and instantaneous recovery” with treatments like cod liver oil”, which he said was “the safest application of vitamin A.” It’s not just snake oil salesmen who con people.
Of course, there will some parents who feel you cannot have too much of a good thing and overdose their children on high doses of Vitamin for weeks. The liver damage caused by excess Vitamin A is precisely what doctors in Texas are seeing. This advice is unequivocally harmful to children.
In an attempt to cover his own back and reflecting how he operated as boss of the world’s leading antivaccine organisation, Kennedy has tasked his genuine CDC experts to find the science to back up his statements - reverse science if ever there was.
This prompted the resignation of the brave CDC’s communication director Kevin Griffis - “In my final weeks at the C.D.C., I watched as career infectious-disease experts were tasked with spending precious hours searching medical literature in vain for data to support Kennedy’s preferred treatments,” he wrote. Not easy to throw away your career, but sadly Kennedy has driven him to it.
Protect your children against Measles and Kennedy
MMR is 97% effective at preventing measles infection, with little by way of side effects, and with zero risk of causing autism. That is where Kennedy is active as we speak.
You could have mentioned that actually vitamin A is appropriately given to people with measles, in order to treat the vitamin A deficiency caused by the disease. It's absolutely in no way intended to cure or mitigate the disease, of course.
