Placebos and Kennedys antivaccine mission

Kennedy doesn't understand clinical trials, medicine or logic.

During the pandemic, and sadly now in circles of power, much is being made of the need for placebo-controlled trials for vaccines. This sounds entirely reasonable until it’s given a modicum of analytical thought.

It is definitely not rocket science, but being manipulated by the Kennedy gang running US health.

Test new treatments against the best available.

To know about how new drugs perform they need to be tested against the best that are already available, not how they work against placebo. Placebo trials are not appropriate when you already have a treatment available. When a vaccine is already available for a disease, it should be tested against the old vaccine.

Trials should not intentionally harm participants.

What parent would sign up their kids for a vaccine trial designed to see how many kids in the placebo arm are harmed by an already preventable illness?

Then there are new vaccines for new diseases, like SARS-CoV-2. There is no problem there in that they the Astra Zeneca trial, as well as the Pfizer and Moderna trials used placebo comparators. So, in that instance there is no problem other than Kennedy’s pathological and very profitable hatred of vaccines which has made him a multi-millionaire at the expense of those harmed by vaccine avoidance.

Placebo trials for vaccines have already been done.

Kennedy stated that “vaccines are exempt from pre-licensing placebo-controlled trials.” It is simply untrue. Here is a list of vaccines tested against placebo from the Immunologic website.

· Polio? Yes. Over 600,000 children were enrolled.

· Measles, mumps, rubella? Yep. Measles vaccine trials started in the 1960s.

· Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b)? Yes.

· Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTP)? Yep.

· Meningococcal (ACWY)? Yes.

· Varicella (chickenpox)? Yes.

· Pneumococcal? Yes.

· Rotavirus? Yes.

· RSV? Yes.

· Hepatitis A? Yes.

· Hepatitis B? Yes.

· Influenza? Yes.

· HPV? Yes.

· COVID-19? Yes, for Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax.

· Shingles (Zoster)? Yes, even a phase IV trial.

COVID vaccines are the target.

Kennedy has excluded the annual flu shots from his demands, probably with the potential for a new pandemic growing all the time. He will clearly and illogically target COVID vaccines, and indeed he has already insisted that Novo retest their sub-unit vaccine against placebo. Again, who in their right minds would sign up for this trial. Those who are not keen on vaccines would want to not risk being given one, and those who are happy to have a vaccine would just go for the vaccines available.

Then of course is the rank hypocrisy.

The vitamins and various other treatments that Kennedy is fond of are not looked at in placebo-controlled trials. He admits to taking more daily vitamins and supplements than he can remember, in addition to testosterone, which despite his protestations he is not on steroids is classed as an anabolic steroid, and despite its unknown long-term consequences.

Supplements, minerals and vitamins are dished out to anyone who wants them based on hyperbole and marketing without placebo-controlled trials which, in the rare instance when they are, disappoint. They can do harm, but they make an awful lot of money for many of his chums – like the dangerous and nonsensical chelation therapy which David Grier, his chief researcher into the non-existent Autism/vaccination link has profited from and the avalanche of the Wellness companies marketing all this stuff.
